What do energy assessors do?
Our assessors are looking at the building you live in, not at the appliances you use. That means they’re just looking at your heat, light and hot water requirements, which makes sense as these account for 75-80% of your overall home carbon footprint.
To do their work, they’ll need to calculate the size of the space to be heated, and then estimate the heat loss rate for the building. Typically you’ll see them
- Measuring the layout of your home & calculating the space heating requirement
- Counting radiators, fireplaces, light fixtures, etc
- Noting the type of central heating system, thermostats and boiler installed
- Checking the depth of insulation in your loft, type of walls and windows
These are all required inputs to complete an Energy Performance Certificate. The inspection is visual (non-invasive) and not a safety inspection.
